It also speaks volumes about the true values of the institutional Church that is increasingly turning away from its mission to wlak, like Jesus, in the world among the poor and the marginalized, and instead offering its support to a strident fundamentalist minority that is not even a recognized church organization.

In an arrogant and perfunctory letter that does even deign to offer any explanation of its affirmations, the Cardinal states that PRODH`s activities are "an affront to Christian values"
So, work to support the rights of the poorest and weakest in Mexican society is an affront to Christian values? As are the activities of PRODH human rights defenders who put their lives at risk to defend the rights of the Mexican women who are victims of sexual violence and state sanctioned misogyny? The work of PRODH can indeed only be considered a compelling defense of the right to life of all Mexicans, including those who are already born.

The real sin of PRODH is unrelated to any alleged support for the promotion of abortion. Its sin is to have worked tirelessly to defend the dignity of the human person, and in particular women, rather than engaging in a blind and fanatical opposition to abortion, in any situation, whatever the circumstances.

It is shameful that Terrence Prendergast failed to consider the visionary work of PRODH and instead based their decision to ban Fr. Luis Arriaga from the Ottawa diocese and then cut the funding to PRODH on the basis of such a Cardinal's coarse and insulting letter.

Once can only imagine Jesus' words who banned Fr. Arriaga from the Archdiocese of Ottawa and sent him back to Mexico.

"You hypocrite, first take the log out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye."
